According to the leading cyber experts there is a shortage of talented computer security experts in the United States making it challenging to protect corporate and government networks at an unprecedented time when security attacks are on the rise. 

 

In this online panel discussion, information technology experts will share their expertise and perspectives on current trends in the cybersecurity.  The panelists will discuss the current skills sets highly sought by each branch of the cybersecurity as well as major organizations hiring in the field.

 

The discussion will also focus on the trends of the job market in the cybersecurity field and the professional certifications that are sought after by recruiters.

 

There will be opportunities for students to ask questions and learn about the current trends in the field.

 

Panelist Biographies

John D. Johnson, Ph.D., CISSP, Global Security Program Manager, John Deere

Dr. Johnson manages technical security programs across more than 130 John Deere business units in 160 countries, and has been responsible for architecting solutions that have been critical to maintaining global network security at John Deere. Prior to working for John Deere, he was the network and security manager for the Theoretical Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory. John is a frequent speaker and serves on various industry boards, advisory councils and conference committees. John develops and teaches information security courses, and has been an instructor at Excelsior College since 2012.

 

Ken Desforges, Director Information Systems, City of Diamond Bar

Ken Desforges, M.Sc., CISSP-ISSMP, PMP, is currently the director information systems for the City of Diamond Bar, and a member of the adjunct faculty and a course developer for the IT and Cybersecurity programs at Excelsior College, Albany NY. 

 

Ken is an accomplished executive with over 16 years Information Technology (IT) management experience and notable success directing a broad range of IT initiatives for both the public and private sectors, including Hi-Tech & Healthcare.  Ken has a strong online and e-government background, including experience creating and implementing Information Security policy, and designing and implementing Information Security solutions that meeting regulatory, compliance, and contractual standards. ( i.e. HIPPA, PCI-DSS, etc.)

 

Sherly Abraham, Doctoral Candidate, Informatics, University at Albany

Sherly Abraham is a doctoral candidate in the informatics program at the University at Albany, State University of New York. Her primary specialization is in information assurance. Sherly’s research interests spans information security and corporate governance in organizational environments. Sherly’s research has been published in a few referred journals and leading conferences. She also serves as the faculty program director for Information Technology programs at Excelsior College.
