|How do we measure quality patient care? Is it because the person can be discharged? Their lab values are within normal limits? Vital signs normalized? These measures, while important, are perhaps missing the MOST important outcomes. Learn measurement techniques and methods used to evaluate the effectiveness of patient safety efforts and target specific areas for improvement.

The goal of this webinar is to explore the basic concepts of quality measurement as it applies to the advancement of safe, cost-effective care.
Upon completion, participants will be able to do the following:
1. Identify two basic components of quality measurement
2. Describe a common framework guiding quality measurement in the healthcare setting
3. Explore the relationship of patient-centered care to quality measurement
Vallire Hooper, PhD, RN, CPAN, FAAN is a recognized advocate for the promotion of safe, quality patient care. Dr. Hooper is the Manager of Nursing Research for Mission Health System in Asheville, NC. She has over 25 years of experience in the area of perianesthesia nursing as a staff nurse, clinical nurse specialist, and researcher. Dr. Hooper's research interests include the relationship of evidence-based practice to patient quality and safety, with a specific focus on the development of multi-disciplinary evidence-based guidelines, the translation of those guidelines to practice, and comparative-effectiveness research examining the effect of singular and combined evidence-based interventions on patient outcome. Dr. Hooper has previously served on the National Quality Forum's Steering Committee for the Endorsement & Maintenance of Complications-Related Patient Safety Measures. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, where she is a member of the Acute and Critical Care Expert Panel and is the co-chair of the Quality Expert Panel.

After listening to the webinar presentation, complete the course test online. With a score of 75% or better and completing the evaluation, you may immediately print your CE certificate of completion or save a pdf of it for your records. You may also request a copy to be sent to you by mail. If your score is less than the passing score of 75%, you may retake the test. In the event of loss, there is no charge for a replacement copy of a CE certificate.
