This webinar explores how to integrate the OHMS plugin suite with Omeka to create a powerful discovery and user experience for oral history
About this event
This webinar explores how to integrate the OHMS plugin suite with Omeka to create a powerful discovery and user experience for online oral history collections. By displaying the OHMS Viewer within an Omeka item, users can conduct a text search of interviews, finding corresponding moments in an online audio or video file. By integrating the OHMS Viewer with Omeka Classic, users can search interview indexes and transcripts across entire collections
Following a brief overview of OHMS and a detailed exploration of Omeka, workshop participants will learn about installing, configuring, and deploying Omeka and the OHMS plugin suite.
Instructors will present sample Omeka sites utilizing the OHMS plugins as well themes that are optimized for use with the OHMS Viewer. Additionally, workshop participants will explore workflow strategies and more advanced aspects of creating an Omeka site utilizing the OHMS Viewer.
This webinar is hosted via Zoom; however, you will receive all of your ticket information and links to the webinar through Eventbrite. You may be asked to set up a free Eventbrite account in order to access the webinar page and your personal "join now" link. Save your original Eventbrite email.
The workshop will be led by Dr. Doug Boyd and Dr. Janneken Smucker who collaborated on the award-winning Goin’ North: Stories from the First Great Migration to Philadelphia, which created the model for integrating OHMS and Omeka, resulting in the design and creation of the OHMS plugin suite.
Doug Boyd, director of the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History in the University of Kentucky Libraries specializes in oral history, archives, and digital technologies and envisioned, designed, implemented, and manages the Oral History Metadata Synchronizer (OHMS).
Janneken Smucker, Professor of History at West Chester University, specializes in digital and public history and material culture. She also serves as the digital editor of the Oral History Review.
