“More women are needed in senior leadership positions. Gender balance and sex composition of an organization send strong signals regarding its commitment to gender equality. Having insufficient women in senior management positions suggests that an organization cannot apply policies on gender equality it advocates for others, thus undermining its credibility.”
—UN Women, 2014
One of the important analyses called upon for an Education Sector Plan (ESP) is the assessment of the institutional capacity. What do we mean by institutional capacity? What are some key data that describe the institutional capacity? In what ways can we contribute to the overall institutional capacity? In the context of IIEP Summer School 2017 for Female Planners: “Policy, Planning and Leadership”, we will welcome Nora Fyles, Head of the Secretariat, United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative (UNGEI), who will take participants through the process of institutional capacity assessment within the ESP.

Nora Fyles is the Head of the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative Secretariat, a multi-stakeholder partnership working to ensure gender equality in and through education. She formerly worked for the Canadian International Development Agency, heading the Education Policy team and also serving as the Senior Education Specialist for the Asia Program. Nora has lived and worked on education and gender issues in Vietnam, Belize, Bangladesh and Indonesia. She holds an MA in International Affairs from Carleton University and a MEd from University of Toronto.
