How to say thank you and make your donors feel good - backed by research

About this Event

Thank-you communications are the communications that donors pay the most attention to. They want to know that their gift has made a difference and that they have done something worthwhile. But what is the best way to tell them that their gifts have made a difference? What do donors want to feel after they make a gift? What is the minimum length of communication required to make donors feel better about their first gift? How often should we send out thank-you’s to make sure the good feelings are continuously sustained. What should we say in the thank-you? This webinar will provide you with answers to these questions, with practical examples so you can easily apply the learning. It summarizes five exciting new experimental studies that we have conducted.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

1) Identify all the opportunities that you have to thank your donors during their communication cycle;

2) Prioritize the best ways to thank donors based on how many gifts people have made in the past;

3) Evaluate how to best frame the benefits created by the donation in the thank-you; and

4) Apply the learning to two pieces of thank-you communications from your organization, one for someone at the beginning of their supporter journey and the other after they have become a loyal donor.

The session will be led by Professor Jen Shang, the world’s only Philanthropic Psychologist.

Difficulty Level 1: The concepts explained in this webinar are reasonably straightforward and the studies we refer to use reasonably simple A/B split designs. They should be conceptually and empirically very easy to apply. If you have never tried any of our webinars, we suggest that you start with this one to get your feet wet and understand our methods.
