Event Details

This is a webinar!

About half of a small group of patients with fibromyalgia -- a common syndrome that causes chronic pain and other symptoms -- was found to have damage to nerve fibers in their skin and other evidence of a disease called small-fiber polyneuropathy (SFPN). Unlike fibromyalgia, which has had no known causes and few effective treatments, SFPN has a clear pathology and is known to be caused by specific medical conditions, some of which can be treated and sometimes cured. The study from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) researchers will appear in the journal PAIN and has been released online.

Many of you are wondering what treatments or tests, if any, you should be asking your doctor for regarding this condition.  Dr. Liptan will discuss how this study applies to fibromyalgia and you.

About Dr. Liptan:

Dr. Liptan has a special interest in integrative medicine, and takes a holistic but evidence-based approach to health. She also has a special interest in fibromyalgia. She strives for disease prevention and promotion of a healthy lifestyle for her patients.

I was a recipient of a Gerlinger Foundation Research Award to study massage therapy in fibromyalgia and have authored several research papers, along with a book entitled "Figuring Out Fibromyalgia".
