Event description
The psychology of giving in faith-based organisations and how fundraisers can contribute to donor wellbeing

About this Event

Giving can be seen as an expression of faith and many faith-based nonprofits have a long history of fundraising on that basis. You’re Christian, so give to an organization that shares those values. But giving can also be a route to faith and comparatively fewer organizations really take the time to explore this dimension and look at how, through their fundraising they can support their donors in the journey in faith. This webinar is unique as it explores the psychology of giving in faith-based organizations, and explores how giving can contribute to the wellbeing of supporters in this context. We draw on survey-based evidence and experiments undertaken with our faith-based clients. We’ll show how you can grow giving, but do so in a way that nurtures and cares for your supporters.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

1) Explain various ways in which donors’ relationship with the trinity can be explored in fundraising;

2) Explain how donors’ personal relationship with the trinity may impact on their relationship with the organizations they support;

3) Reflect on how these relationships resonate with one’s personal faith beliefs and experiences;

4) Apply these concepts into the design of a fundraising solicitation communication; and

5) Apply these concepts into the design of a fundraising thank-you communication.

The session will be led by Professor Jen Shang, the world’s only Philanthropic Psychologist

Difficulty Level 2: This webinar is conceptually challenging because it will offer a range of definitions for concepts that participants may or may not be familiar with, and encourage them to apply these concepts with the help of fundraising examples. However, the empirical evidence offered in this webinar is quite straightforward using simple A/B split designs. Participants do not have to like numbers to absorb the content, but they will feel conceptually challenged.

This is the final webinar in this series.
