Many ethicists believe that an individual's access to basic healthcare is a characteristic of a civilized society. Many also believe this lack of access is the country's foremost ethical issue. This webinar will discuss this issue, as well as our ethical and professional obligations and responsibilities to improve access to quality healthcare.

The goal of this webinar is review issues with access, quality, and advocacy in healthcare, and discuss how these impact individuals and populations.
Upon completion, participants will be able to do the following:
1. Identify limitations to access in their own clinical practice environment
2. Identify quality limitations in their clinical practice environment
3. Identify the role of advocacy in affecting areas and quality in their clinical practice environment
Sarah B. Vittone is an assistant professor at Georgetown University and joined the School of Nursing and Health Studies in 2007. She has a MSN as a Pediatric Clinical Specilalist and a MA in Religious Studies (Clinical Ethics), both from the University of Virginia and is currently a doctoral student in Bioethics at Loyola University Chicago. Ms. Vittone's teaching interests are in pediatrics and clinical ethics. She teaches undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Nursing as well as in Health Studies. She is an Englhard Fellow. Ms. Vittone has 20+ years experience in clinical ethics consultation and since 2007 has been a consultant with the Ethics Consultation Serivce of the Pelligrino Center for Clinical Bieoethics at GUMC and MGUH. Her clinical ethics interest are in decision making and surrogacy, as well as issues at the interface of vulnerable populations and health systems. Since 2011, Ms. Vittone has worked in human protection and research ethics for the Clinical and Translational Sciences Award with Georgetown-Howard Universities-Veterans Administraiton and Medstar Health Research Institute as a Research Subject Advocate. Ms. Vittone has been a speaker at a number of national meetings on nursing, and ethics, including the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities; and the National Teaching Institute, American Assocation Critical Care Nurses Annual Conference, and the National Press Foundation.

Course Completion Requirements and Awarding Certificate: After listening to the webinar presentation, complete the course test online. With a score of 75% or better and completing the evaluation, you may immediately print your CE certificate of completion or save a pdf of it for your records. You may also request a copy to be sent to you by mail. If your score is less than the passing score of 75%, you may retake the test. In the event of loss, there is no charge for a replacement copy of a CE certificate.
