Event description
Weave four beautiful wash cloths in naturally colored, sustainably grown cotton yarn. No dye required!

About this Event

In this workshop, you will use a rigid heddle loom—a good loom for beginners—to weave four wash cloths using sustainably grown, naturally colored cotton yarn. No dye needed!

Offering a chance to work with texture and learn basic pickup techniques, this workshop is the perfect follow-up for SCHG's popular "Weave a Beautiful Scarf in One Day" introduction to rigid-heddle weaving.

Students of all levels of experience, including beginners, are welcome.

WORKSHOP FEE: $90.00. Includes instruction, American Maid yarns created in cooperation with the Sustainable Cotton Project, and use of a rigid heddle loom. There will be coffee or tea and snacks upon arrival but plan to bring your own lunch—the center has a refrigerator and microwave for you to use.

Pre-warped looms will be provided. If you would like to use your own loom, please email schgprograms@gmail.com at least two weeks in advance of the workshop for warping instructions that must be completed prior to the start of the workshop.

ABOUT THE TEACHER: Although Michele Belson is new to Southern California, she isn’t new to weaving. She began her weaving career in 1990, opened The Lunatic Fringe In 1991 and has never looked back. Lunatic Fringe Yarns, now a real corporation she owns and runs with partner/friend and fellow Lunatic Katzy Luhring, is major yarn manufacturer and distributor. Michele has had the privilege of taking classes with some of the stars of the weaving world: Madelyn van der Hoogt, Anita Luvera Mayer, Bonnie Inouye, Ingrid Boesel, Randy Darwall and many more. She has written articles for Weaver’s, Handwoven and Heddlecraft and loves sharing her love of yarn, fabric, and all things textile with others, especially introducing new weavers to the fun of Rigid Heddle weaving.
