Event description

Description

This class will focus on making kiln-formed inclusions to use in students’ jewelry designs. We will investigate different warm glass techniques including murrini making and fusing sheet glass together to create elaborately patterned glass. We will also use cold-working techniques including carving, sawing and drilling to finish pieces. Through lectures and class discussions, we will look at the history of glass jewelry from ancient times to contemporary. We will also cover different jewelry making and metalsmithing resources to give students options to finalize work with professional quality. Students should be prepared to expand on their own body of work and will be asked to push the possibilities of design.

No glass experience required. Jewelry experience is helpful, but not necessary.

This class is being offered as part of our 40 for 40 series, a celebration of the 40th anniversary of UrbanGlass.
