Description

You are invited to a Wearable Art Happening/ Fashion Gala & Mini-Symposium this coming Saturday. This is the last chance to meet the designers and see their creations up close at a fun and informative event. Featuring live models, all part of our fashion gala, at the 2nd last day of the “Bay2Bay” Wearable Art Exhibit. We don't do anything in a formal way, so you can count on having a fun afternoon. Come see this exhibit that opened as a smashing success. View the “art-fits” up close and personal, chat with the designers about process & inspirations and see a film made about the local wearable art scene.

Seventeen designers have contributed to the “Bay2Bay” Wearable Art Exhibit; including 11 members of the Garden Fairies Artist Collective, 3 designers from Safety Harbor Art & Music and three guest designers, past participants of the Dunedin Fine Art Center (DFAC) Wearble Art Runway Shows; Julian Hartzog, Lina Teixeira and Dacota Maphis.

Our keynote speaker for the Mini-Symposium, George Ann Bisset, President/CEO at Dunedin Fine Art Center (DFAC) will present the genesis and proceeding 15 years of DFAC commitment, supporting the local wearable art design scene and with DFACs must see runway show. Executive Director at Creative Pinellas, Barbara St. Claire will talk about opportunities made possible by Creative Pinellas.

Julian Hartzog, a local designer, will speak about his experience as an award winning designer at New Zealand’s World of WearableArt (WOW) international design competition. Julian is an ardent promoter of the local wearable art scene and believer that Tampa Bay could follow New Zealand amazing success. The World of WearableArt (WOW) attracts a local and international contingent of attendees who contribute to the local economy during the winter, low-season for tourists visiting New Zealand. A stunning success story that could be duplicated here in Tampa Bay. Bringing creative loving tourist to Tampa Bay in the low summer season, augmenting DFACs Wearable Art runway show.

We are also going to be exploring ways to leverage the immense talent of Tampa Bay’s world-class wearable art community the symposium, will be split into two parts: history & future opportunities. Fostering both emerging and established local designers, along with attracting global talent.

Our ultimate goal is to establish Tampa Bay as the capital of wearable art of our continent, based on New Zealand’s World of WearableArt (WOW) international design competition where designers of diverse backgrounds from around the world come to New Zealand to showcase their creations attracting as many as 60,000 visitors. https://www.theatlantic.com/photo/2018/09/photos-world-wearable-art-competition/571543/
