Yorkshire & Humber Region Annual General Meeting & Showcase Event with the theme of Women’s Suffrage

Date: Saturday 17th November 2018
Time: 10.30am – 3.30pm

Key Note Speaker – Cheryl Turner, The William Alderson Memorial Trust

Cheryl Turner is a senior research fellow at NIACE (National Voice for Lifelong Learning) and has worked in adult learning for 40 years. She has been a WEA tutor organiser and a teacher in community and higher education. She believes that learning is at the heart of a more equal, democratic and sustainable society and is honoured to support the WEA in building learning in communities.



Educational workshops

Our Educational Workshops this year will follow a theme of Womens' Suffrage and allow you to delve into a variety of exciting information and content. Each workshop has it's own room to allow for open ended discussions and interactive learning. You will have over an hour to gather, discuss and share your thoughts and ideas by contributing to your group’s collective knowledge. A conversational approach to learning will create an atmosphere that is sure to feed your curiosity.

11.45 – 12.15 The William Alderson Memorial Trust Lecture delivered by Cheryl Turner

12.15 – 12.30 Cheryl Turner presents Festival of Learning Awards

13.30 – 14.15 Question Time

14.15 – 15:15 Educational Workshops

15:15 – 15:30 Closing comments & depart

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

How to get there:
St George’s Centre is situated at the bottom of Great George Street, next to the Leeds General Infirmary and opposite Firehouse Fitness Health Club beside the footbridge.

By public transport:

St George’s Centre is a five minute walk from Leeds General Infirmary bus stop served by the Leeds City Bus. The service also stops at Leeds City Train Station and Leeds City Bus Station. There is a charge of £1 per journey on this service.

By car:
Car parking is available at The Light, the St Johns Centre and the Merrion Centre. These are all within 5-8 minute walk to St George’s Centre. There is limited street parking available on Great George Street. Disabled parking is available at the front of the centre.
