Description

A CreAtive Self-Care Community Performance!

This is a new moment for us, for all of us. The ways we can be whole, can keep our communities alive, well and together are asking for more creativity. The ways we take care of ourselves, our ancestors guiding, are needing to move deeper and grow wider. What does that look like for our communities of color, for our communities of organizers and activists?

We are in a new historical moment. We are completing 5 years after Trayvon Martin was murdered and transitioned-- his spirit grew the movement of #BlackLivesMatter, addressing a root violence of anti-black racism that fuels state violence in the U.S. We celebrated his birthday recently. Last year, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe sued the Army Corps of Engineers, an effort in the long history of resistance to the U.S. Empire’s hold on the Indigenous land of Turtle Island. We are more than 15 years post 9/11, where Islamophobia spiked, black and brown people profiled as Muslim were attacked, as the lands and people of Western and Central Asia continue to be decimated by the U.S. military. Fear has continued to grow, and so has languages of resistance through our wellness. Refugee stories of families being split, impossible choices to leave homeland and blood ties for an imagination of safety. Here we are, all the pieces coming together in this new year, a call for our solidarity to go deeper and work to move stronger. We must take care of ourselves and each other, and offer deep respect to this knowledge.

This series was all about wellness. How do we be well together? How do you take care of yourself to be well? This season, we worked together to build wellness through our collective theater making, art, words, dance and witnessing. Join this conversation for yourself, your communities and your families.

Witness our community artists share-back! You are not alone in your struggle to be well. Together we share through song, movement, poetry and theater the stories of wellness that exist in our community. Together we share our visions for a community and world that is well! Our health is not negotiable! And our stories are powerful. Open to the public!
