We the Future salon no. 3: Burning In/Dodging Out
Overview
Salons have their roots in 17th-century Europe, when philosophers, musicians, poets, and academics would come together to share ideas about art, politics, and science. Our salon carries that spirit forward — an evening to connect, converse, and build community over a shared meal.
This time around, we’ll be discussing the politics of the image: how photographs can tell the truth, bend it, erase it, or reclaim it. Together we’ll look at who has access to the camera, whose stories get recorded, and how film photography — with all its flaws, chemistry, and magic — can help us see one another more clearly. From film’s chemical biases to the politics of archiving and the rise of digital manipulation, we’ll explore how images craft history — and how young artists are reclaiming the lens as a site of resistance, truth-telling, and liberation.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts at burning in/dodging out.
