About this event

We Give Summit is the place for giving circle members, philanthropy experts, community leaders, and social impact newcomers to come together, forge new bonds, strengthen our work towards community change, and celebrate!

The We Give Summit Debriefs will be hosted on:

We would like to highlight three specific talks we encourage Partners to attend.

Moving Billions for Justice: A Conversation on the Future of Racial Equity Centered Grantmaking | 4:00 PM- 4:50 PM, May 19, 2021

What hurts one of us affects us all. Systems of racism inform our daily lives, no matter who we are and what bodies we live in. Are the cries across the globe for change — #BlackLivesMatter, #StopAsianHate and more — getting us closer to justice? Join leaders in philanthropy from Bank of America, Borealis Philanthropy, Possibility Labs, and W.K. Kellogg Foundation whose life experience and work is making change happen - both in community impact and organizational culture changes that reduce harm and improve equity. Hear their assessment of where we are, and what is making a difference. Together, we are all invited to invest in racial equity, overcome habits of harm and defy the legacy of racism in philanthropy.

From Donor-Centered to Justice-Centered: Advancing Systemic Change through Collective Giving | 9:00 AM-9:50 AM, May 27, 2021

Change is possible. Hear from and learn with three Social Venture Partner affiliates who are evolving their local work to shift and share power, center racial justice, and catalyze more resources to systems change. Donors engaged through Social Venture Partners’ network of affiliates are stepping up to reimagine collective giving to be more accountable and connected to community. We will share stories of change and both the opportunities and challenges when we turn the lens of change on ourselves as donor circles.

Envisioning the Future of Giving: The Social Movement of Our Time | 11:00 AM- 11:50 AM, May 27, 2021

Edgar Villanueva has helped us all reconsider what is possible when we bring our lived experience, our communities and the lessons of our cultures, an understanding of our shared histories and the power of philanthropy together. A globally recognized expert on social justice philanthropy and an enrolled member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. Edgar leans into the courage to ask bold questions and the dedication to pursue their answers through his work including the book Decolonizing Wealth and the Decolonizing Wealth Project. Join our closing fireside chat, moderated by Consultant Mijo Lee, to learn how social movements and philanthropy intersect, and discuss where we are headed.
