Event description

Description

Meet the woman who cracked the code for eradicating bullying in urban schools. Known as Ms. D, Deborah Thorne, the Chief Conflict Resolution Specialist for Kids First Conflict Resolution and Training Services, has uncovered a four-step process that really works.

Although bullying does not appear in the news daily, it continues to be a significant problem for schools and other places where children congregate. LA Reports newspaper identified twenty-four schools in the Los Angeles area where more than 80% of the students reported being bullied.

Bullying makes children feel unsafe at school. Feeling unsafe makes learning difficult. Unsafe schools make unsafe communities. It is a problem for everyone, not just schools.

Kids First is calling educators, parents, student leaders, and community partners to come help tackle this problem. In the day-long, high-energy training you will:

  • learn to identify your own style of managing conflict

  • learn the three elements of bullying

  • learn which strategies don’t work and why

  • learn the four steps needed to cause a paradigm shift

Each participant will leave with a personalized, written plan of action.

Educators, parents, student leaders, and community partners will be encouraged to collaborate on ways to make our communities safer.

Eradicating bullying requires a shift in the way things are done. It is a task best handled by a team. To that end, Kids First encourages schools and organizations to bring a team of five people. As an incentive, teams will be charged for three people.

Please share this information with your peers and anyone you believe would benefit from this training.
