We could do it like that...or we could do it properly

Overview

Did Downton Abbey get it right? How does a military historian work with movie makers to bring the world wars to our screens?

We could do it like that...or we could do it properly

Over four decades, Taff Gillingham has been a military historical advisor on many major film, television and theatre productions, including ‘Downton Abbey’, and the 2018 film ‘Journey’s End’.

We all have our own view of what the experience of WW1was like for a soldier, and much of that has been shaped by the programmes we have watched. When have they got it right and when have they not....and why sometimes do they deliberatley get it wrong.

In this talk Taff looks at how the Great War has been portrayed on British television over the years, and examines the historical messages that have been conveyed through various productions. He regularly appears in TV documentaries and is a passionate and knowledgeable presenter.

...and see the replica uniforms from Taff's collection that Richard and Lewis are wearing on the day, and are shown in the photo at the opening of the devotional last Sunday.

The Exhibition is also open to the public during this time so you will be free to see the display before or after the presentation. Search Meltham Remembrance Exhibition to learn more.
