Join a community of your peers who are committed to the development of a better world by building bridges between diverse perspectives and differing opinions in order to develop solutions cooperatively, instead of through activism by opposition. During this innaugural event, our movement's founder, Chris Heuer, will briefly share his vision for We Are the Solution and facilitate one of his signature unconference conversations, a BrainJam, to connect you with other people, ideas and resources that will help you to accomplish your goals and live your life's purpose.
What does that mean? Well, to put it simply, we are building a community of communities for leaders, concerned citizens and others interested in social good so that you may help each other in ways big and small. So it's a kind of networking event with a specific emphasis on ASKING for help from each other and finding opportunities to share your gifts by making connections that might not otherwise happen if we didn't sit face to face in conversation with each other.
We held our first BrainJam almost 10 years ago, shortly after the first BarCamp. We are now reviving this community event with the intention of bringing technologists and community organizations and activists together to learn from each other, to help each other and to help advance our shared purpose of creating a more open, safe and collaborative world. Those first events were held in San Francisco, DC, New Orleans (after Hurricane Katrina) and other cities around the world. This gathering in DC kicks off a new era with similar upcoming events being planned for San Francisco, Los Angeles, London UK, Dublin Ireland and Bilabo Spain.
Chris Heuer is coming in from San Francisco and needs your help, if you are able to volunteer to help set up, promote, clean up and ultimately organizing future events. Please select a volunteer ticket if you are able to help and we will reach out to you as soon as we can.
IMPORTANT: We are still seeking a venue. We have an opportunity to host the event near Dupont Circle on Friday afternoon of October 9, 2015 from 2-4 at a coworking space, but know people would rather do a morning event for something like this and have a chance to get back to work to end their weeks. So if you know some place, or have a community room in your organization, please reach out to us by sending a message to @chrisheuer on Twitter.
When & Where
We Are the Solution
We Are the Solution is a community of communities working to bring people together to create solutions to our toughest social problems through a more cooperative approach instead of an oppositional one. We spend so little time understanding what we have in common, only focusing our attention on the differences, that we no longer see our common humanity. By shifting a focus to collaborative solution development instead of oppositional activism, we hope to advance public safety, economic opportunity and personal well being for all. http://wearethesolution.io/
