Event description

Description

The Great Coharie Creek has deep cultural significance to the Coharie people; and as a result they strive to protect and maintain access to this threatened river for recreation, subsistence and cultural uses. With the goal of sharing their culture with discerning visitors, and to explore river-based livelihoods for their youth, Coharie people are now welcoming visitors in partnership with P1t and Frog Hollow Outdoors [www.froghollowoutdoors.com].

Join members of the Coharie community on a day journey including a guided kayak tour on their Great Coharie Creek, a community lunch and activities in their cultural center. Participants will meet at the Coharie Tribe's Cultural Center near Clinton, NC. River shuttle, lunch and all activities are included. The ticket price includes equipment rental, but participants can also use their own kayak and equipment.

Event will run rain or shine, with activities adapted according to river and weather conditions. Registered participants will receive advice on how to dress appropriately for the event, as well as specific driving directions.

We are also organizing a similar event with the Lumbee tribe.
