Wayside House Education Series presents: Culture, Race, and Historical Trauma in our Communities

This presentation will focus on definitions of and common misunderstandings about culture, race, and historical trauma while also providing guidance on how to improve outcomes related to these issues in your home, community, systems, and greater society.

The participant will learn:
1. Broadly accepted definitions of culture, race, prejudice, discrimination, and historical trauma
2. Where our understanding of race and racism came from
3. How racism is still present today
4. How racism and discrimination injure us individually and in communities
5. Identifying systemic forms of racism and potential strategies for inclusion

Karina Forrest Perkins MHR, LADC is the current CEO for Wayside House. She is a nationally known speaker and consultant for culturally relevant trauma informed care, the integration of primary and behavioral health, quality improvement systems design and the impact of toxic stress on the developing brain.

This activity has been approved by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy for 1.5 hours of Continued Education for licensed alcohol and drug counselors. Certificates of attendance are available for $10.00.

This event is FREE and open to everyone, but please RSVP early as there is limited seating. $10.00 to obtain Continued Education Certificate if needed.
