Wayfinder Wanders - November SEND Family Walk
Overview
An outdoor adventure for children with SEND* and their families
Join Wayfinder Calderdale CIC for our monthly Wayfinder Wanders – creative outdoor sessions designed with neurodivergent children and their families in mind.
This month’s walk turns the reserve into a story-filled quest. Children will each make their own Journey Stick — adding natural treasures and colourful ribbons as they complete fun challenges along the way.
There’ll be time afterwards to unwind and chat at the Cromwell Bottom Café, with drinks and refreshments available by donation. (please bring cash)
This event is designed for children with SEND, including autistic and ADHD children, and is sibling-friendly. It’s a relaxed, inclusive, low-pressure environment where families can enjoy time in nature and connect with others who get it.
*diagnosis is not required
Meet Point
Please meet at the gate just across the bridge from the car park at Cromwell Bottom Nature Reserve for a 10:00 am start.📍 Free parking is available on site.
We recommend arriving 5 minutes early so we can start together.
What to Bring and Wear
- Dress for the weather (layers and waterproofs if needed)
- Bring a drink with you
- Wear sensible footwear such as walking boots or wellies
- We’ll go ahead rain or shine — that’s part of the fun! Shelter is available at the café if we need it.
- We love our furry friends, but we ask that you please leave them at home for this walk.
Accessibility
We welcome all needs and abilities. There are several routes available at Cromwell Bottom, including a fully accessible option, and we’ll adjust the walk to suit the group on the day. The walk will be around 1–2 miles depending on needs and activities.
Please let us know about any access requirements when booking — we’re here to make it work for you.
Whilst siblings are welcome, this event may not be suitable for very young children or those in pushchairs. We are happy to chat and make arrangements for you if needed, though! Just get in touch.
Café & Toilets
Walks start and finish at the Cromwell Bottom Café, where toilets and cover are available. Drinks and light refreshments are available from the café by donation (cash preferred).
Booking Info
This is a free event, with the option to add a donation at checkout to support future Wayfinder activities. If you'd like to donate, we recommend £2 per child.
Booking is essential, as places are limited to keep the session calm and manageable.
Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please note each parent/guardian can accompany a maximum of four children per event. We cannot be responsible for unsupervised children.
We can’t wait to wander with you!
