Event description

Description

Exactly one year after premiering at D.C.’s first Wawa® on 19th Street NW, Wawa® Shabbawa returns to the District!

Love Wawa®? Love Shabbat? Then you’ll love this!

Combining both of your favorites, while there may not be any matches, wine or challah, there will be LED candles, carbonated Grape Juice, and Soft Pretzels. We’ll also be reciting all of the Shabbath blessings, so please BYOYOT (Bring Your Own Yarmulke or Tichel), because Wawa® doesn’t sell them (yet).

Many people consider Wawa® a sacred institution, and Jews worldwide certainly consider Shabbat to be one as well. So let’s gather ’round the communal tables of Wawa’s second D.C. location (Store #6003 in Georgetown), and celebrate with all true Wawa® fans at this Shabbat of convenience. This will be the fifth Wawa® Shabbawa, following dinners in D.C., Tampa, Orlando, and Philadelphia.

Nourished by OneTable, Wawa® Shabbawa is an independent production of Brian Feldman Projects, and is not affiliated with, presented, sponsored or supported by Wawa, Inc.

Reviews

“In our current environment, openly celebrating Shabbat isn’t simply an amusing art project, but a potentially dangerous act of political protest, and I’m proud to have raised the kiddush cup of Fanta alongside Feldman for all to see.”

(Seth Kubersky, Orlando Weekly)

“Once we returned with our hoagies in hand, it felt more like a traditional Shabbat dinner. Most of the attendees knew at least one other diner, and chatted about Jewish-adjacent topics: delis accidentally serving you pork, whether eating bugs would be kosher, and, of course, the Holocaust.”

(Rachel Kurzius, Washington City Paper)

“Wawa Shabbawa was amazing.”

(Sadie Dingfelder, The Washington Post)
