About this event
Brought to you by Meeting Street Schools and the WatotoAcademy of Performing Arts, join us for our "That Sweet Soul Music" Community Concert. This production will take you on a musical journey that honors the music and artists responsible for creating Soul Music - one of America's greatest musical treasures.
Originating in the late 1950s/early 1960s, Soul Music is a beloved American music style that combines elements of African-American Gospel music, Blues and Rhythm and Blues.

A History of WatotoAcademy and our Partnership:
Meeting Street Schools is proud to announce their partnership with the WatotoAcademy of the Performing Arts. Founded by Donald O'Connor in Memphis, TN in 1987, WatotoAcademy's focus is on powering academics and social emotional skills through rich experiences in the Arts. Learning comes to life as students experience African and African American music, dance, performance styles, literature and history.
With a rich history of national and international performances, WatotoAcademy partnered with Meeting Street Schools to bring its performance arts programming to our students in Charleston, SC.
Most recently, WatotoAcademy has developed it's Love America Concert Series. Created in 2017, the Love America Concert Series utilizes performance as a vehicle for historical research for the students at Meeting Street Schools.
