Event description

Description

To push the concept of a comprehensive waterfront planning initiative forward we're turning to the community to share the issues they experience in relation to the livability of our waterfront.

Please join us for a one hour phone call on May 8th, 2 pm, to share your thoughts, challenges, and potential solutions.

We work with policy experts to turn these crowd-sourced ideas into concrete policy recommendations which we will then take to the City to continue to support the growing relationship we have developed with city management, officials, and policy makers.

Context:

After years of not having a baseline, Georgia Strait Alliance's Waterfront Initiative developed the State of the Waterfront Report. It's the first comprehnsive look at how the many components related to our water and adjacent lands all work together. From increases in traffic to affordable housing near the water. Whether or not the industries that depend on our waters have access, and how is the health of the ecosystems. The issues are ranging and complex, but by taking a collaborative, holistic approach we belive we can make progress.

The Georgia Strait Alliance has grown the Waterfront Initiative, a stakeholder-driven initiative, around the concept that Vancouver needs a comprehensive planning approach to it's waterfront. We're inspired by the NYC model of waterfront planning and other emerging waterfront plans from around the world.
