Mountain Glory Watercolor Workshop with Cathy Quiel
Join internationally renowned watercolorist and art instructor Cathy Quiel, in painting the beauty of the forests, lakes and the quaint village of Truckee California, 20 miles from North Lake Tahoe, California.
Through demonstration, lecture, handouts and individual and group critique, Cathy will instruct students in the watercolor techniques of layered foliage “Green on Green on Green” and eye catching and mood filled skies. There will a strong emphasis on the nuances of light and shadow, with a directed demonstration on the sophisticated use of reflected color. New skills in creating strong design and composition will be a prominent aspect of the workshop.
Through the years, Cathy Quiel’s relaxing warmth and good humor, combined with informative and organized teaching skills, have won Cathy her students respect and friendship.

WHERE: Truckee, California (near Lake Tahoe.) Specific painting locations and directions at Donner Lake, the quaint town of Truckee and in the surrounding forest will be emailed to students prior to the workshop.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Although California based, Cathy Quiel’s talents are not restricted to the West Coast where she has taught for Santa Barbara City College, Schott Center, for 25 years. She has instructed workshops in France, Italy, Malta, Mexico, the Caribbean, Bermuda, Greece and throughout the western United States.
Her work has been published and featured in numerous art publications including The BEST OF WATERCOLOR III, THE ARTISTIC TOUCH Volumes 1-4, CONFIDENT COLOR & THE NEW CREATIVE ARTIST by Nita Leland, ‘The Artist Magazine,’ ‘The American Artist,’ ‘Montecito Magazine’ and AIRPLANES IN THE GARDEN, a children’s book which she illustrated received the 2013 Global EBook Silver Award for best Illustration in children’s fiction.

WORKSHOP FEE $300 Price includes Watercolor Workshop with daily demonstrations, lecture, handouts and individual and group critique. Saturday evening gathering & appetizers and critique at Cathy’s little log cabin in the Truckee forest.
SKILL LEVEL Students should have taken at least one introductory watercolor class or had experimented with watercolor on their own.
MATERIALS Students should bring their standard watercolor equipment including adequate seating for painting on location, "plein aire." Additional information will be sent prior to the workshop.
