* PART I – “Water Purification Technologies Mechanics and Chemistries” - John Postiglione - MECO

* Anyone in the pharmaceutical industry that uses purified water should have a good understanding of how it is purified. To understand water purification systems you need to know the impurities you hope to remove and the technologies used to remove them. The presentation will review; the four main types of contaminates, the units and methods used to measure them. The mechanics and chemistry of the various technologies will be explained. It will include; multimedia filter, chlorine removal, softeners, depth and screen filter, reverse osmosis, electro-deionization, ion-exchange, ultra filtration, ultraviolet light and distillation.

* PART II – “Water System Design Practices” - Peter Vishton – Wyeth and John Postiglione - MECO

* The presentation will include water system design perspectives from both an owner company and a manufacturer. The presentation will review Water Purification System configuration options and key design practices to follow to assure the final design selected will meet all of the facilities pure water requirements. We will discuss the steps in designing a Water Purification System. A case study will be used to demonstrate the key design steps from initial design and defining user needs, to equipment, final design, through to installation.

* PART III – “Recent Regulatory & cGMP Developments for Pharmaceutical Water Systems” - Andrew Collentro, Technical Director - Water Consulting Specialists

* Recent regulatory updates to compendial monographs, coupled with novel technologies and applications, have lead to changes to those systems and methods historically considered cGMP for pharmaceutical water systems. This presentation will explore the effect of these factors on process design, system operation, and regulatory review and perception of pharmaceutical water systems and explore the potential impact on the future of the industry.
