Audience:

  • You are interested in getting trained and building a career in Cloud Computing.

  • You are new to cloud computing but you have some experience using computers for a business or in personal life.

  • You do not need to have a background in computer science or computer programming.

  • You have an appreciation for cloud computing and desire to learn new cloud technologies that include open source technologies along with cloud offerings from leading cloud computing vendors

Complete this FREE online course. We do NOT require a verified certificate.

Class Schedule:

This course runs 2.5 hours every weekend over 4 weeks

Course Outline:

  • This course runs exclusively online which enables you to participate from your location without the need to travel to a physical classroom.

  • Our interactive sessions are scheduled on the weekends. In-between the weekend sessions, you will work on your own and in collaboration with other students on the assignment which is due Friday noon UTC. You report your progress on your assignment via our Slack chat channel.

  • Upon course completion, based on your participation, and your work on your assignments, you will receive a course completion certificate. This is a pass/fail course. It does not provide a grade.

Weekend 1:

You will learn how cloud computing works, what makes cloud computing super interesting to businesses in every industry. You will understand the business and technical benefits of cloud computing. You will install the Cloud Genius workstation virtual machine on your computer. You will use this workstation to connect to a variety of clouds and work on the assignments.

During the week, you will work on the weekly assignment which you will report on via our Slack channel. Submission is due - Friday noon UTC.

Weekend 2:

Study the NIST definition, learn the classification, service models including software as a service - SaaS, infrastructure as a service IAAS, and platform as a service PaaS, and and deployment models of cloud computing such as private cloud , public cloud, hybrid cloud, and community cloud.

During the week, you will work on the weekly assignment which you will report on via our Slack channel. Submission is due - Friday noon UTC.

Weekend 3:

You will understand and use services provided by leading cloud infrastructure services providers such Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure Cloud, Digital Ocean etc.

You will also understand and use cloud platform services provided by leaders such as Heroku, Openshift from Red Hat, Cloud Foundry, IBM BlueMix, Engine Yard and Deis, among others.

You will understand basics of virtualization and containerization. You will use virtual machines and docker containers and run your own applications within containers.

During the week, you will work on the weekly assignment which you will report on via our Slack channel. Submission is due - Friday noon UTC.

Weekend 4:

In this concluding session of this course, you will spend time understanding the software as a service landscape in the industry. You will also learn the challenges involved in migrating business applications that are on-premise over to the cloud. You will also learn the 12-factor apps methodology of writing modern cloud native applications.
