HERT Level 200

Overview:

The HERT Level 200 course is designed to build on the initial HERT certification course. HERT 200 will review facility specific processes, Banner HERT SOP and contain hands on physical setup of Decon Equipment. The Hospital Emergency Response Training for Mass Casualty Incidents addresses healthcare response at the operations level for the facility and its personnel. This one-day course prepares healthcare responders to utilize and setup decon equipment while operating an Emergency Treatment Area as hospital first responders during a mass casualty incident involving patient contamination. The healthcare responders will determine and use appropriate personal protective equipment and conduct triage followed by decontamination of ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients as members of a Hospital Emergency Response Team.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Analyze the need, composition, and use of a Hospital Emergency Treatment Team during an emergency, mass casualty incident, or disaster situation.
  2. Summarize the organization and operation of the Hospital Incident Command System as it integrates with the Incident Command System during response to mass casualty incident.
  3. Select and use the appropriate level of personal protective equipment as hospital first receivers in response to a disaster involving patient contamination.
  4. Structure the healthcare facility Emergency Treatment Area to support medical operations in response a mass casualty incident.
  5. Setup of Decontamination equipment. i.e. Tent/Shower, Water Supply, Power, Communications, Designation of Ambulatory vs Non-Ambulatory patients, Status Monitoring and Clean Treatment Area.
  6. Perform Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment© (START) and JumpSTART procedures within the Emergency Treatment Area during a hospital response to a mass casualty incident involving contamination.
  7. Conduct operations in an Emergency Treatment Area while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment in response to a mass casualty incident involving contamination.

Target Audience:

Participants should include:

Hospital staff members who comprise a Hospital Emergency Response Team and who have taken the initial HERT course offered by Banner Health Emergency Management. Attendees must have also completed the Occupational Health HERT screening prior to taking this course.

Recommended prerequisites:

  1. HERT Level 100 Offered by Banner Health Emergency Management

6 hours

Certification:

This course will meet the required annual refresher hours mandated by FEMA.
