Event description

Description

May 5th is the nationally recognized day for MMIW awareness (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women). In the United States, Indigenous women are murdered at 10 times the national average rate on some reservations as reported by the U.S. Department of Justice in 2008. A whopping 84% of Indigenous women experience violence in their lifetime and 56% survive sexual assault. (Reference: Ruth Hopkins of Teen Vogue). Four Directions Cuisine, as an Indigenous women owned business, has chosen to help bring awareness to the crisis of our Indigenous sisters being stolen by hosting a dinner to benefit the National Indigenous Women's Resource Center. The NIWRC does educational work surrounding Indigenous women's issues including MMIW awareness.

This multi course dinner will highlight mostly pre-colonial ingredients from both Indigenous and local growers and breeders. The theme of "no more stolen sisters" will be present through out the dinner and opportunities for additional donations will be available to the guests. Every woman is a goddess and in many cases she has to be her own warrior as well.
