Event description

Description

Join recently launched 'Sustain the Vote' to learn and contribute to plans to engage candidates for the New York City Council November 2017 election on clean energy, resiliency, and equitable and sustainable infrastructure.

Sustain the Vote’s vision is a future where an informed electorate and elected officials agree that an economically vibrant Tri-State region depends on clean energy, resiliency, and equitable and sustainable infrastructure. We will make clean energy, resiliency, and equitable and sustainable infrastructure central to the Tri-State region’s political discourse by building an advocacy channel for constituents to empower candidates to champion these issues in political races. We hold our elected officials accountable for contributing to progress on these issues and support candidates in local, state, and national offices who reflect our values.

Join us on October 19th to learn more about and discuss candidates for New York City Council, discuss key issues in our District, identify clean energy, sustainability and resiliency topics that matter to us and make plans to engage our City Council candidates before the election. Meet fellow New Yorkers who care about these issues and learn more about this new advocacy group of supporters for sustainable infrastructure and clean energy. Following the meeting, we expect participants to be energized to engage with their NYC City Council candidates before the November 7th election.

Agenda for October 19th at the Half King Bar (we will be in a side room)

'Homework' for the October 19th meeting:

1. Who are the current candidates for City Council in your district?

2. What can you learn about them/what topics did they campaign on?

3. What are 2-3 issues in your district?

4. What are 2-3 clean energy, sustainability, environmental issues, climate related to your District? (Don't know where to find that info we can give you tips at the mtg!)

Sustain the Vote was formed following the 2016 U.S. Presidential election by some members from two groups - the Cleantech Party for Hillary and the Women for Hillary in Climate, Sustainability and Infrastructure. Although previously distinct, these groups were united in their support for policies at the federal level that advanced clean energy, resiliency, and sustainable infrastructure.
