This year the Warmachine Phoenix Open is lucky enough to have the services of William Rutan as our Head Judge.

Message from the judge (Please Read):

Hello! In preparation for the forthcoming Phoenix Open I wanted to talk about a few things that can come up in a tournament. The vast majority of these will not come up for most players, but it's good to go over them so you're not surprised during the event.

1. When to call a judge?

Anytime. Need a rules clarification? Ask. Have a tricky measurement or need help with a power attack? Ask. Need to know if you're in line of sight? Ask. If you and your opponent are not seeing eye to eye on something, then definitely ask. The purpose of the folks running this event is to help you in any situation. It's much better to ask before you do anything if you're not sure, than to wait till after the game or event is over when things cannot be changed.

2. Pacing

In an effort to keep the event running and ending on time, we are going to try and minimize the time between rounds. What this means is, you will be allowed a brief grace period to allow you to find your table and opponent. After this period someone will be going around to ensure that every game has started and has their clock running. In addition to this at no point should a player pause their clock without an organizer's approval. This quick pace cane be challenging to some players, so here are some suggestions that will help everyone:

A. When you're done with your game, prepare yourself and your models for the next round. This will ensure the time between rounds is focused on finding your next opponent and table assignment.

B. If you're between games and would like to leave the venue for a time (grab a snack, stretch your legs, smoke break, etc) be sure to ask the organizers when the next round will begin. This will ensure you are present when the pairings go up, and that you are not late.

C. When you have finished a game that has gone long on time, please focus on getting your models cleaned up as quickly as possible. Being ready will help everyone transition to their next game as smoothly as possible.

3. Accurate Lists

This event will feature list checks and strictly enforcing list accuracy. On the day of the event, illegal lists, or players who play with models not listed on their event sheet (i.e. playing with a model you forgot to put on your sheet), will be given a game loss when the error is discovered. Please ensure list accuracy is 100%.

Thank You.
