Predicting the future is not a theoretical superpower.
It's a skill we already rely on to make decisions, and like any other skill it can be rapidly improved with deliberate practice—making predictions within a domain and comparing the results to reality. This year, data scientist Danny Hernandez has built a culture of doing just that at Twitch, the world's leading video platform and community for gamers.
Danny will start the workshop by presenting the evidence for forecasting. He'll give examples of well-defined forecasts, discuss the relationship between predictions and data analysis, work with attendees to make forecasts, and share what he's learned about building a culture of forecasting. In the last 30 minutes we'll split into groups to make forecasts for upcoming projects and 2017 initiatives.
We encourage you to bring along data and product leaders from your organization. During the forecasting exercises, you can make predictions together—predictions that you'll be able to implement at work the very next day.

Meet your speaker
Danny Hernandez joined Twitch five years ago when it was still codenamed Xarth. As a data scientist he focuses on guiding product with evidence. He finds evidence of a problem in the data and takes that all the way to a solution through prototyping, UX, research, influence, and product management.
