Come Experience a Rare Solo Concert by a Local Treasure.
You would never guess it, but Walter turns 75 in November and we want to celebrate this local treasure with a concert! Although this might be a little straighter than our usual presentations, Walter is very familiar with the out sound and tells us he’s got something special in store!
Walter grew up in Watts, where his father was a preacher and that’s when he fell in love with singing, which he still does quite a bit, though it’s his work on bass for which he’s most known. Walter was so smitten with the work of the great Paul Chambers with Miles Davis, her picked up the bass while serving in the military in the 1960s, and never looked back.
He has worked with jazz greats Horace Tapscott, Arthur Blythe, Bobby Hutcherson, Taj Mahal, Pharoah Sanders and many others. His dedication to his instrument allows him to cross all musical boundaries including jazz, blues, soul, avant garde and classical. His solo performances have been delighting audiences across the country.
Besides his busy schedule as a sideman, Walter is also a composer with two CDs as bandleader: Soothes the Savage Beast and Autumn’s Witch.
Whether you like your music curvy and outside the lines or a little straighter, you’ll be in for a treat with this solo performance by one who has dedicated his life to music.
Come celebrate with us.
