Fairfield Muse presents the musical debut of video game icon Walter Day, who appeared in LIFE magazine in 1983 after opening Twin Galaxies arcade in Ottumwa and establishing the definitive database for rules and scores. In 1983, Guinness World Records recognized video games as a new category and Twin Galaxies became the official supplier of verified scores and put Day in charge of video game scores. At the 2017 Hugo Awards ceremony, Day presented a Guinness Record to the Hugo Award as the longest-running science fiction award.
Day has appeared in numerous documentary films including Icon (2002), Coin-Op TV (2007), Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the Arcade (2007), The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters (2007), Frag (2008), The Video Craze(2013), Gamer Age (2014), The King of Arcades (2015), Nintendo Quest (2015), and Man vs Snake(2015). In a number of these films he played early versions of his songs with the promise that someday he would record them. A dream 37 years in the making, Walter will finally perform a sample of his original rock songs from his soon to be released album, followed by Q&A.
Tickets are $13 in advance, available online here or at Cafe Paradiso on the NW corner of the Fairfield square, or at the show for $15.
