About this event

Join us for the Walls Ortiz Gallery's winter/spring bi-weekly lunchtime yarn circle series! Our current textile installation, designed by Harlem artist Naomi Lawrence, was made together with community members and friends during the early part of the COVID-19 pandemic. We crocheted flowers and leaves in our homes during virtual yarn circles, and these were collected to make this beautiful glimpse of beauty in our neighborhood, beautifying the gate of the Fresh Oils Community Garden. We are working on a new community installation—include bugs and flowers native to New York— and invite you to get involved!

Supply kit distribution will begin in early February 2023. You can pick up materials at an IN PERSON yarn circle, or by appointment at City Seminary of New York (302 W. 119th St, 3rd Flr.) We will meet to share what we are working on, ask questions, and spend time building community together. We encourage neighbors and community members to get involved in making this collaborative piece together!
