Event Details

Engineering the City of London

Engineering the City of London is a free walking tour covering some of the most impressive examples of how civil engineers directly transform lives in the City of London.

The tour will explore sites within the Square Mile and how engineers have developed and continue to develop the City, from the tallest to the deepest, the oldest to the newest.

The tour is sure to be exciting and entertaining for all. Everyone is welcome!

The tour is part of the ICE's Explore Engineering initiative celebrating the Institution and promoting the work of civil engineers. The tour will be run by enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers from the ICE London region.

The tour will last approximately 2 hours but this may vary due to the nature of the event. The walk will be leisurely with frequent stops. Participants will be outside and on their feet for the duration of the tour. Regrettably, due to its nature the walking tour is not suitable for those with restricted mobility and the route is not step-free.

Meeting Point

The tour will start from the Guildhall, London (off Gresham St., Guildhall Yard, and Guildhall Buildings). Guides will be waiting in front of the large doors to the Guildhall building in the main square (in the middle of The Guildhall, the Guildhall Art Gallery, and St. Lawrence Jewrey). The nearest tube stations are Bank, St. Pauls. and Moorgate.
