Event description

Description

This walk, beginning and ending at the Central Reservoir at 25th Avenue and E. 29th Street, is a 4-mile stroll through a geological district and the communities that have grown upon it over 150 years. These low hills of Pleistocene alluvium, between Sausal and 14th Avenue Creeks, were once the site of country estates between the towns of Brooklyn and Fruitvale. We will examine two landslide sites along the edges of the hills as well as the smaller stream valleys that shaped the infrastructure of this surprisingly varied set of old neighborhoods. The route, with elevation changes of 100 feet, features secret paths and classic buildings of several different periods. Stops also include Wood, Garfield, and San Antonio Parks.

Leader: Andrew Alden
