Event description

Description

Sawmills, opera houses, train stations, merchants and entrepreneurs all had a hand in shaping one of North America’s largest remaining Chinatowns.

Please join the Friends of the Vancouver City Archives for a walking tour of Vancouver’s Chinatown. The tour will be led by John Atkin and Bob Sung. John is a civic historian who has explored the origins of Vancouver’s Chinatown and looked at the forces that created and shaped this important part of the city. Bob is a third-generation Chinese Canadian, and a graduate of the Dubrulle Culinary Institute. Share John’s insights of the architecture, and history, and Bob’s experience of the culinary & cultural elements of Chinatown.

Funds raised will support the digitization and description of 4,000 photographs and 50 posters donated to the City of Vancouver Archives by Paul Yee, an activist, historian, curator, archivist, public servant, and award-winning writer of fiction for children and adults. To learn more about the Archives, please visit vancouver.ca/archives; to learn more about the records of Paul Yee, please visit searcharchives.vancouver.ca/paul-yee-fonds
