why: The film If These Halls Could Talk, which was screened during the launch of the NATIONAL CONVERSATION ON RACE, documents the unfortunate truth that prejudice, racial disparity and unconscious bias are still effecting the lives of our youth, which means that the goal of a fair and inclusive society is glaringly unrealized -- even for young people! It’s now in our hands to shift this… And, it’s becoming increasingly clear that we all, YOU and I and those wanting change, must take responsibility for healing our society & removing these barriers for a better world!
workshop style: non-confrontational, interACtive education; “mindful facilitation” approach.
key focus OF WORKSHOP:
Why Understanding Racial Bias is Essential to Every Thing? The institutions and institutionalized systems in the Unites States are full of racial contradictions, unfairness, misunderstanding and unconscious bias. The individuals, leaders and professionals within them say again and again that they genuinely believe in equality, yet they simultaneously engage in behaviors that favor dominant groups. Here are some of the questions that we must join together to answer to end this:
How can we bring change without violence, mistrust, the breakdown of relationship and/or despair?
What must be done to reverse these condition and “build a future” that works for everyone?
What part can you and I personally play in these critical and very timely goals?
