Event description

Description

The Murnong, or yam daisy, was once a staple food for Aboriginal people of South Eastern Australia including Moonee Valley. Unfortunately due to early settlers, sheep grazing and increasing development this native bush tucker has disappeared from the area.

Join the Wurundjeri Narrap Team and help us re-establish the Murnong at Five Mile Creek Reserve. You’ll be given the opportunity to learn about Wurundjeri culture, take part in a smoking ceremony, plant natives and be treated to a BBQ with traditional bush meats.

20 lucky families will have the opportunity to make traditional digging sticks used to harvest the Murnong.

You’ll then be invited back to take part in a Murnong harvest in mid-October.
