Event description

Description

Walking is the most accessible and affordable means of transportation, but requires a safe and pleasant built environment to do so. Join us on a walking tour of Thunder Bay downtown and residential neighbourhoods. Paul Young, landscape architect and urban designer, will lead the discussion on how our City can improve walkability, and how citizens can be involved! Following the walk, Paul will lead a presentation and workshop where participants will learn about the impact of the new Transportation Master Plan, and have a chance to design their streets to improve safety and walkability.

This event is FREE!

1:00pm
Meet at Ecole Gron Morgan, 174 Marlborough Street. Participants will be shuttled to the start of the walk.

1:15pm

3:00pm

3:15pm – 5:00pm

A healthy snack will be provided following the walk.

· This event is rain or shine. Please dress for the weather!

· Arriving early is reccomended. Attendees must be at the meeting location, Ecole Gron Morgan, by 1pm to board the shuttle bus. The shuttle bus will be leaving shortly after 1pm to transport us to the start of the walk.

· The total walking distance is 2.4km. If this were a continuous walk, it would take 31 minutes at a normal pace.

· We will be stopping and talking at various locations along the walk, so the total walking time will be 1 hour and 45 minutes.

· A healthy snack will be provided at the end of our walk, at Ecole Gron Morgan.

I have included an image and a link to the walking route: Map

*The planned route includes taking the stairs from Bay Street to the top of Hillcrest Park. We intend to accommodate all abilities on this walk. If you want to participate on the walk, but are not able to take the stairs (due to strollers, mobility aids, etc), please contact Joanna Carastathis at 625-5923 so we can make alternate arrangements.*
