Event description

Description

Join Wild Virginia for walk in the woods with fall colors, beautiful Blue Ridge mountain stream, and wines on Sunday, October 20th.

We will start late morning at 11:00 am for an out-and-back hike along the Rose River in Shenandoah National Park, beginning at the lower Rose River Trailhead near Syria. We will go up along a fire road with the river below and then make several stops along the river where the river meets the road. We will look for aquatic life and perhaps see Virginia’s state fish, the brook trout, in its fall spawning colors. We will eat lunch alongside the river before heading back. The leisurely walk will total about 3 miles. The "out" part is only slightly uphill, but there are some rocky sections of the fire road which will require walking on an uneven treadway with cobble-sized rocks. Something to keep in mind for those with balance or ankle/knee/hip issues.

After our hike, we will be driving a few miles from the National Park to nearby DuCard Vineyards for a tour of their facilities and a wine tasting. The tasting will be $15 per person, so please bring that along with you if you plan on attending. DuCard was named “Greenest Winery and Virginia” and awarded the Virginia Green Star Travel Designation for their sustainability efforts, which will be the focus of the tour.

We will contact registrants the week before the event with more details including what to bring and how to get to the trailhead. In the meantime, please contact David Sellers at davidsellers@hotmail.com or 434-760-4809 with any questions.
