Event description

Description

Join us for a family-friendly Walk for Water to raise funds for much-needed water storage tanks to Jordanian schools in crisis due to influx of Syrian refugees. We will carry water together (1-3 miles) to support of refugee and Jordanian children whose education is at risk.

Water scarcity in Jordan has spiked as a result of the influx of Syrian refugees living in camps and host communities. The water crisis prevents thousands of children from attending school due to lack of hydration and hygiene. While Jordan has been at the forefront of providing schools for young Syrian refugees, schools continue to face water shortages, thus limiting their capacity to accommodate a growing refugee population. Given the demand, the Jordanian government has been forced to limit the distribution of water to schools to once a week, requiring schools to store the water in storage tanks. Many schools do not have the means to acquire the needed storage tanks.

Walk for Water will raise funds to provide water storage tanks to Jordanian schools in crisis. In collaboration with the Jordan Health Aid Society (JHAS), MathAction has identified schools in Irbid and Mafraq districts in Northern Jordan which are most impacted by the influx of Syrian refugees.
