Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®: The International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault, and Gender Violence.
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is a mile-long walk with the sole purpose of raising awareness about the serious causes, effects and remediations to men's sexualized violence against women. Sexual violence is a worldwide problem, and coming together as a community is the first step in putting an end to it. Rainn.org reports that about each year, 237,868 people are sexually assaulted, but 60% of cases are never reported. Furthermore, 1 in 5 women have experienced either an "attempted or completed rape" in their lifetime. People might not want to talk about it, or people might not know about its existence. Whatever the reason, it's time to speak up. Let's make the issue known about women's experiences with sexualized violence. As Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® explains, the key to "improving gender relationships and decreasing the potential for violence" is to "talk about gender relations and men's sexual violence against women." Put yourself in her shoes™. MEN, we are asking you to support this very critical cause by agreeing to walk a mile in high-heels! Women, we ask that you register as well to support and spot the men as they walk.
College campuses across the nation have been charged with addressing this issue on both a federal and state level in order to assure student safety while attending their college or university. Join us as CSU Channel Islands takes a stand against sexual violence. The walk is Carnival themed.
The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®, hosted by the CSU Channel Islands (CI) chapter of the Gamma Beta Phi National Honor Society benefits the Coalition for Family Harmony. All net proceeds will go towards the Coalition.
