Walid Raad, Inaugural Lecture Event

In his presentation, Raad will give an overview of his recent projects. The Atlas Group (1989-2004), a fifteen-year project between 1989 and 2004 about the contemporary history of Lebanon, and Scratching on Things I Could Disavow (2007-ongoing). Raad will concentrate on the emergent infrastructures for the arts in the Arab world (especially in the Gulf), the writings of Jalal Toufic, as well as some of his most recent artwork.
Walid Raad’s other ongoing project is titled Sweet Talk: Commissions (Beirut). His books include The Truth Will Be Known When The Last Witness Is Dead, My Neck Is Thinner Than A Hair, Let’s Be Honest, The Weather Helped, and Scratching on Things I Could Disavow.Raad’s works have been shown in the Louvre (Paris), Documenta 11 and 13 (Kassel, Germany), Kunsthalle Zurich (Zurich, Switzerland), The Whitechapel Art Gallery (London, UK), Festival d’Automne (Paris, France), Kunsten Festival des Arts (Brussels, Belgium), The Venice Biennale (Venice, Italy), The Hamburger Bahnhof (Berlin, Germany), Homeworks (Beirut, Lebanon) and numerous other museums and venues in Europe, the Middle East, and Americas.

Tisch Photography & Imaging
The Department of Photography & Imaging at the Tisch School of the Arts is a four-year B.F.A. program centered on the making and understanding of images. Students explore photo-based imagery as personal and cultural expression. Situated within New York University, the program offers students both the intensive focus of an arts curriculum and a serious and broad grounding in the liberal arts.
