Description

This is Wales Week in London's official opening event - led by Hilly Janes, journalist, author / biographer and media lecturer. Leading cultural and media experts from both sides of the border discuss how Wales is portrayed in the UK media.

Chaired by communications expert Guto Harri, together with invited contributions from the audience, we will look positively at what might need to be done to develop perceptions of Wales, in London and across the UK.

Our expert panel includes:

- Guto Harri (Chair), Strategic communciations consultant, former BBC Chief Political Correspondent and previous Communications Director for Mayor of London Boris Johnson

- Hannah Ellis, granddaughter of Dylan Thomas, who spearheaded the acclaimed 2014 Dylan Thomas centenary celebrations, and is Creative Director of the Dylan Thomas Estate

- Ian Hargreaves CBE, Professor of Digital Economy at Cardiff University, former Editor of the Independent, New Statesman and Director of BBC News and Current Affairs; co-founder of Creative Cardiff

- Fiona Stewart, award-winning festival director and events industry consultant, Managing Director and owner of Green Man Festival since 2005, (BBC Radio 6 Music Festival of The Year 2017), and former Member of the Welsh Government's Creative Industry Advisory Panel

- Steve Howell, author, former journalist and chief executive of Freshwater PR, and Deputy Executive Director of Strategy & Communications for the Labour Party during the 2017 General Election

We're delighted to have such hugely impressive contributors, who'll ensure a lively, interesting and thought-provoking debate about the portrayal of Wales in the national media. Audience participation will be encouraged!

And we're most grateful to Wales Week in London sponsor PwC for hosting this event.

There will be networking / drinks after the formal discussion, and the event is expected to close at about 8.30 / 9.00pm.
