April 30:       Wild Geese & Stone Wallsan Artist’s Journey Home                   to Ireland

In 2013, the Carlow Arts Festival invited 20 of the world’smost  innovative wood artists to spend a week in the Irish countryside, creating a large scale wooden “Story Wall” based on traditional Irish stone walls.  Michael Brolly was one of them, and their hauntingly beautiful, magical ‘stone’ wall  is now welcoming visitors to Irelandat DublinAirport.  Michael will share the story, video and images of this inspiring journey with us, and talk about how his own Irish roots have influenced his artistic journey in shows like “The Wild Geese”, and his installation piece “Waking History”, shown at the Irish Arts center in NYC.

May 7:      The Scottish Boat SephiraA Musical Ark

Artist Michael Brolly dreamed of building a musical, wooden boat, one that might speak to the  Atlantic seas and the whales.  His woodworking students atMoravianAcademydreamed of taking that boat across the seas to Ullapool,Scotland, to race her against the best in the St Ayles Skiff World Championships.   How they made all of those dreams come true is an amazing tale, one that is still being told.  Join us for an evening of stories, music and images, as we journey from the past to the future in a magical, dragon-headed harp-boat called ‘The Sephira’.
