Description

Breastfeeding for Health: the “normal” thing to do! - Join us as Dr. Jenny Thomas, Aurora Healthcare, discusses why breastfeeding is so important to baby's health throughout the lifespan, the challenges breastfeeding moms face when returning to work, and how businesses benefit from having breastfeeding mothers in the workplace. Breastmilk is more than just food; helping baby to develop their immune system, feel safe and warm, have normal sleep patterns, be more likely to achieve and maintain a healthy weight, and less likely to develop diabetes, asthma, or arthritis. Women with small children are the fastest growing segment of the United States workforce. Learn about the challenges new moms face with breastfeeding when returning to work and how businesses benefit from having breastfeeding mothers in the workplace.

Dr. Jenny Thomas is a pediatrician and breastfeeding medicine specialist at Aurora Healthcare in Franklin, Wisconsin and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Community and Family Medicine and Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). “Dr. Jen” aspires to help parents to develop healthy, safe and happy children. She received her MD from MCW in 1993, and her MPH in 2011. She has been an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) since 2003. She is now serving on the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Breastfeeding Executive Board after spending several years as the Chief of the Chapter Breastfeeding Coordinators. She is a founder and an Immediate-past Chairperson of the Wisconsin Breastfeeding Coalition. She is the author of "Dr. Jen's Guide to Breastfeeding." She has received national awards for teaching, advocacy for children, and innovation within her practice and community. She is one of only a few physicians internationally to be recognized as a Fellow of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (FABM) for her expertise on breastfeeding.

Immediately following the event, we will convene the Active Communities Action Team from 9:15 - 11:00 a.m. Open to current Action Team members and those interested in joining an Action Team.
