WAKE UP TO WALI! (WALI Spring Forum)

What is WALI? The Northern Santa Barbara County Workforce and Literacy Initiative (WALI) is a regioal collective impact effort to collaborativelyt articulate and achieve five distinct workforce and literacy goals to improve ecnomic prosperity and quality of life in North County. WALI is co-led by United Way NSBC and EconAlliance and was conceptualized by the two organization leads in collaboration with Allan Hancock College and numerous other partners.

5 Collaborative WALI Goals: How Are We Doing?
What does the data tell us about Northern Santa Barbara County progress made on the five WALI goals since baseline year of 2014? WALI Data Lead Cary Gray, Pres/CEO, Assessments USA & Canada, will present information gathered from the community college, K-12 education sources, SB County, nonprofits and other sources to paint a picture of where we are compared to where we were.
Other Presenters will then provide context and give perspective on the feasibility of 2020 Goal attainment.

Goals 1 & 2 - Doubling attainment of degrees (20% STEM) and vocational certificates

Goal #3 - 1000 North County adults/year gaining basic literacy skills (rdg/comprehension 8th gr level)
---Luke Ontiveros, Supt, Santa Maria-Bonita School District
Goal #4 - Reducing by half the number of 3-11th grade students not reading at grade level
---Eileen Monahan, Consultant to First 5 Santa Barbara County
Goal #5 - Increasing by 1000 new high-quality licensed child care spaces in North County
