The Applied Engineering and Technologies Department will host a “Mini Maker Faire” event on Wake Tech’s Main Campus May, 6th of 2017 in Raleigh, NC. https://waketechmakerfaire.eventbrite.com
What is a Maker Faire? Well it can be best described as combination of a science fair and a county fair. “Makers” will come from all over to showcase the things they’ve made. Some of the topics we would like to showcase include: engineering, robotics, Arduino projects, Raspberry Pi programming, 3D Printers, electronics, building, e-textiles, smart fabrics, clean energy, and unusual tools and machines. We particularly encourage exhibits that are interactive and highlight the process of making things.
We’d like this Maker Faire to be “college themed” and to draw on Wake Tech’s faculty to offer interactive workshops in their classroom/lab spaces to highlight all of the great programs that Wake Tech has to offer. We'll also need help from the general public us spread the word to folks from the community that would like to present/offer demonstrations and to area businesses to sponsor the event.
There will be 4 classes of participants at the event:
-Student Attendees ($1 to attend)
-Community Attendees ($5 to attend)
-Commercial Makers ($50 to display)
-Student Makers (free to attend) & Event Volunteers (free)
-Non-Commercial Community Makers (free to display)
There hasn’t been a “Maker Faire” hosted in our city since the summer of 2014: http://www.exitevent.com/article/triangle-rallies-to-keep-maker-faire-150226 The sole organizer for that event got overwhelmed planning and executing it by himself. We have assembled a several member team of WTCC staff to get our event off the ground. We’re expecting several thousand folks to attend and are really excited about this opportunity!
